How to Curate Your Decorations & Style Your Home for the Holidays

Holiday decor can look like a crayon box explosion and can clutter your style. Quality and cohesiveness matter if you're prioritizing elegance and beauty. Today I am sharing with you my best 3 tips for creating a holiday winter wonderland feel in your home and not a mad scene from the Nutcracker! I do admit, though, I collect nutcrackers and they grace my kitchen mantel every Christmas (but just a few!!).

Tip #1: Choose a Specific Color Palette

Pick a color theme and stick to it! Yes, red & green are iconic, but what about silver and gold with pops of color? Or neutrals for a nature-infused look and feel? Look at your existing style and color scheme, choose a favorite color from it, and use it as your base for ornaments and ribbons mixed with shiny silver and/or gold.

Tip #2: Vary Your Materials for Visual Interest

Using an array of different materials in the same shades creates a curated designer look. Think blends of wood, metal, glass, and ribbons woven through your greenery. And don't forget candles! The flickering battery operated ones offer such a cozy magical environment. Strategically place them, sync them to a remote, and voila: ambiance!

Be sure to avoid the cheap items (think plastic), and invest in quality that will last for years.

Tip #3: Group Items Strategically

My number one rule of styling is in the Golden Mean: clusters of 3 or 5 of the same item, no more, no less. When used in design, this fosters organic and natural compositions. Don't use more than three colors and be consistent. Vary item heights and materials, but stick to your palette. Strategically use mirrors and candles to reflect light and open the space.
