The 3 Places I Felt Most Inspired During My Trip to Italy

There is nothing like traveling abroad to refresh the mind and spark creativity. I just came home from a two-week family vacation in Italy and have returned completely refueled for all the projects ahead of me! On this trip, we spent five days in Florence and biked across Puglia for six days with DuVine Cycling Tours. Inspiration is an understatement. I love going to different hotels and admiring their presentation. Today, I’m sharing a few of my favorites with you...

Travel Inspiration #1: Le Capase Resort in Salento

This lovely boutique hotel is nestled on a cliff by the sea. I liked the serene and whimsical flair of the decoration. The square vase of pebbles with messages from guests and the jar of books were a great touch! I plan on using this idea for a client's guest house!

Travel Inspiration #2: Borgo Canonica

Originally a village from the 1800s consisting of Trullos, this hotel is the result of a majestic restoration project. I loved every room detail, from the stone walls to the tiny little windows. The room included contemporary ambient lighting, removable magnetic black-out window covers, and linen-wrapped toiletry. I was impressed! I took close-up photos of the window coverings for my project in Puerto Rico, which has difficult windows to treat!!

Travel Inspiration #3: Borgo Egnazia

Unlike the Canonica, the Borgo Egnazia is a recent creation mimicking a 19th-century village. I felt like time-traveling on its vast grounds, and I got lost every night as I admired the architectural details. The design was simple but elegant, using repetition to create a calm atmosphere. I loved how they decorated the ceiling with pots and farming tools. So clever and inexpensive to do!

Traveling is a luxury, and I feel so blessed to have spent such solid time with my family. They teased me as I couldn’t stop oohing and ahhing over what they just took for granted. As a designer, I have an immense appreciation for the specialized art and unique color schemes, to one-of-a-kind features these fine hotels present. Even if you can’t go abroad, I encourage you to step into a lobby of a 5-star hotel and soak up the glam!

If you are feeling as inspired as we are, reach out to us today! We can't wait to discuss your own travel-infused spaces.

Cheers,
